bio
Born in Solihull, Birmingham March 31, 1973. Mark's early influences in art come at an early age, most probably from both his parents and grandfather who were and still are active painters.
From 1989 through till the summer of 1991, Mark attends Solihull College of Technology, studying Art Design and Media. Here, his influences do not come from the emerging artists at the time such as Damien Hirst and the other YBAs but retrospectively from pop artists like James Rosenquist and Peter Philips. Diversely, in the early 2000s, he explored abstract art primarily to increase his knowledge of colour and its use in compositions, but he always found himself repeatedly going back to constructing collages and depicting them in oil. It will come as no surprise that Music, TV, film, sport and current affairs also play a major role in many of his works.
More recently, he has looked back to the Baroque and Renaissance movements for inspiration by using similar techniques to that of the old masters (Caravaggio and Velazquez), techniques he is now applying to contemporary stories as well as sporting scenarios, working towards several major shows in 2010.
